The 13th International Symposium on Calcium Signaling in China (SCSC), is organized by the Biophysical Society of China and hosted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The meeting will be held in Wuhan, Hubei province, China from June 16-19, 2020.

Previously known as Chinese Symposium on Calcium Signaling (CSCS), SCSC is an international conference series focusing broadly on calcium signaling research. The first CSCS symposium was launched in Xuzhou, 1987. The subsequent symposia were held every three years at different sites in China (Tianjin 1990, Shijiazhuang 1993, Nanjing 1996, Xuzhou 1999). During the 6th symposium in Qingdao, in order to increase international participation, the CSCS scientific advisory committee decided to adopt the Gordon Research Conference style with the symposia being held biennially. Since then, the 7th to 10th symposia were held in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 in Yichang, Beijing, Huangshan, and Yichun, respectively, and the conference series has gradually become internationally known as an excellent platform for calcium signaling researchers, in both China and overseas, to share with their most recent research findings, to exchange ideas, and to foster collaborations. Particularly, the 8th symposium in Beijing was jointly sponsored by the Biophysical Society and the Biophysical Society of China, with the participation of dozens of world-renowned calcium signaling experts including Richard Tsien, Wolf Almers, John Lederer, and David Clapham. In order to promote its international recognition, and to emphasize its geological location rather than language or ethnicity in the 2014 symposium in Yichun, the scientific advisory committee voted to use SCSC as the new acronym for this conference series. In the 2016 symposium in Zunyi and the 2018 symposium in Shenyang, hundreds of meeting attendees were from more than ten different countries from Asia, North America, and Europe. The official language of the symposium is English.

We fully expect the SCSC 2020 to be an exciting meeting that will cover all fields and aspects of calcium signaling with the following tentative themes: “Ca2+ entry channels”, “Organellar Ca2+ channels”, “Intracellular Ca2+ Stores, release, and uptake”, “Ca2+ in cell function, Ca2+ homeostasis in disease”, “Ca2+ signaling in the excitable cells”, “Ca2+ signaling in health and disease”, and “Ca2+ channels and GPCRs in drug discovery”. More than 20 world exerts on calcium signaling research have agreed to participate in this exciting meeting, which we hope will be an excellent opportunity for Ca2+ signaling community to share their most recent findings and foster collaborations.

Besides science, the SCSC 2020 may also provide an opportunity for our international researchers to experience Chinese culture. Wuhan, as a big city at the center of China, is a well-known for its education and culture. We sincerely look forward to seeing you at SCSC 2020 in Wuhan.
